advance: a verb (used with object) to move or bring forward

Long ago, on a September day, I first stepped foot on the Cleveland State University campus. I will not tell you the date, but it is enough to say that the Go-Gos were still playing on the Rascal House sound system and you could get a beer at The Shire. Nowadays, the Rascal House is planning a move down Euclid to make room for the Center for Health Innovations opening in 2015 and The Shire is known by todays students as a location in a Peter Jackson movie.

Walking through campus and seeing the many enhancements , from Julka Hall, the bright, airy home of the College of Education and Human Services to a stunning Arts Campus comprised of the Middough Building, the Galleries at CSU and the Allen Theater , makes me realize how far Cleveland State has come in the last few years. CSU is moving forward. We are advancing.

If it has been a while since you have been on campus and you have not seen these incredible advancements, please join Dr. Sajit Zachariah, dean of the College, faculty members and myself for our annual Homecoming activities on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Among many other events, you might find our CEHS reunion tent at 2 p.m. particularly interesting. Alumna Demetrius Lambert-Falconer 02, who works as outreach manager for the Cleveland Metroparks has helped us to arrange a special afternoon. The college will offer you and your family the opportunity to get up close and personal with The Owls of Northeastern Ohio as well as the chance to take an educational journey with the EcoAdventures Van program. Along with mixing and mingling with other alumni, you willl get a chance to learn a little bit about our local environment and chat with Demetrius, who will be joining us in the Reunion Tent that afternoon.

For a whole host of other activities, including tours of our new residence halls, check out the schedule of events at www.csuohio.edu/homecoming.

Sign up today and bring your friends and family to see firsthand the incredible transformation at Cleveland State!

I hope that we will see YOU and your family in October as you connect with CSU!
