The Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education is an outreach office of the College of Education and Human Services focusing on providing support in the face of the changing demands placed on educators, schools and districts. The Center supports the work of a broad education community by providing services, resources and collaborative professional learning to area schools, districts and education oriented programs. Beginning with a sharp eye on the data the Center staff can support the design of programmatic and curricular responses to the needs of the school and/or district. The Center also serves as an incubator for new or novel approaches to education supporting the necessary thought and planning process involved in implementing those approaches. The Center seeks to bring together partnerships of organizations that will support and enhance the overall education venue of Northeast Ohio.
For the past 31 years, the Center, formerly the Greater Cleveland Education Development Center (gcedc) has served as the home to a consortium of area school districts, educational agencies and the University brought together to exchange ideas, discuss common concerns, and consolidate resources. This consortium has served as a foundation for cross-district cooperation and sharing – thus strengthening everyone involved. The Center also serves as the home of the Cleveland Schools Book Fund – an endowed program designed to support and extend the literacy activities of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The Cleveland Schools Book Fund places book collections and bookshelves in every Pre-K through Grade 4 classroom in CMSD and supports home literacy efforts of CMSD enrolled students through activities and resources located at www.clevelandschoolsbookfund.org.
