Practicum - Internship

Practicum

Practicum is the first field experience in the clinical mental health counseling program at Cleveland State University and is intended to provide the practicum student a supervised learning experience to develop and demonstrate the required skills and knowledge for the setting and population of his or her eventual placement. A student is required to accumulate a minimum of 100 hours of work experience at a site during the semester in which practicum is taken. A site should be chosen for both the service it provides to their students/clients and for the learning opportunities it provides to the practicum student. Click for more information.

If you are license only, then you do not need to re-take practicum.
Practicum (CNS 680) is offered according to the following schedule:

  • Spring and Summer 10 week.

Internship

Internship is the second and final field experience in the clinical mental health counseling program at Cleveland State University, and is intended to provide interns a supervised learning experience to develop and demonstrate the required skills and knowledge for the setting and population of his or her eventual placement. This is a two semester experience with students accumulating 300 hours each semester toward a minimum total of 600 hours. A site should be chosen for both the service it provides to their clients/students and for the learning opportunities it provides to the intern.

Internship is offered according to the following schedule:

  • Internship (CNS 686) Fall Semester.
  • Advanced Internship (CNS 687) Spring Semester.
