Technology:

The College of Education values technology and telecommunications as major threads of the fabric which supports the collaboration and interdependence of all people. Thus, it follows that teacher education must prepare future teachers to help their students gain such skills and knowledge. To meet this challenge the College of Education strives for excellence in the applications of technology in three major areas:

  • To promote an environment in which students, faculty, and staff value appropriate uses of technology and in which they are encouraged to find creative uses of technology in instruction and learning.
  • To help students gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values which will enable them to use modern technology in carrying out the roles and responsibilities associated with their chosen careers.
  • To promote and provide for the development of a faculty and staff that is skilled in and comfortable with the use of modern instructional and supportive technology.

The emphasis on technology that is represented by these goals is particularly consistent with our teacher education conceptual framework of The Teacher as a Responsive Reflective Professional: A Partner in Learning.

Diversity

The College of Education and Human Services takes seriously the challenge posed of preparing educators for a world where diversity -- whether defined in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, exceptionality, socio/economic status or globalism -- is an ever-increasing aspect of social reality. As an institution located in a major urban area, issues of diversity are in particularly high profile. The College of Education strives for excellence at all levels of the CSU's teacher education program--the conceptual framework, the detailed learning activities, faculty grants and scholarship, faculty and candidate recruitment efforts, and various urban outreach programs-- and is addressing issues of "difference" in multiple and creative ways.
