50 Book Challenge

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary Of Cleveland State University

50 Book Challenge!!

50 book class

As Cleveland State University’s green turned the gold of 50 years, we encouraged all children grades three and under in Cuyahoga County to meet the 50 Book Challenge.  Reading any 50 books  (or having the books read to them) from September 19th through May 15th , 1500 children met the Challenge.  During the year there were events at local libraries and museums where books were read and copies given to the children in attendance. The 50bookchallenge.org website also had read-along videos to help every child meet the 50 Book Challenge, as well an app and lists that helped children keep track of their books. For the 1500 winners there were backpacks, tee shirts, water bottles, more books and school supplies.

NCAA visit

Every 50 Book Champion was entered into a drawing for an iPad, a weekend at Kalahari Water Park and memberships in various museums. Tayler Drake of Glendale Elementary School in Bedford won the title of Most Books Read with 702! Tony Petrie of Notre Dame Elementary School in Chardon was the very first 50, 100, 150, and 200 book reader. Burton Elementary in Berkshire and Almira School in Cleveland were both 50 Book Champion Schools, as well as almost 20 whole classrooms of 50 Book Readers in various schools.

Thanks to all our avid readers. Who knows where reading will take you next?
