ADVOCACY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Spring 2008 Courses Open For Registration!
Cleveland State University is proud to provide this national certificate program, which takes place through Web-based distance education. This online program resulted from long and fruitful discussions with the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA) that began in early 2003. A personal membership group of the American Hospital Association, SHCA provides support to those professionals who strive to ensure high quality health care. Cleveland State University (CSU) Division of Continuing Education has a long history of providing professional development courses and seminars of high quality to health care professionals.
It is fitting that this program was first announced during Patient Advocacy Week of 2004. The efforts by SHCA members to promote the role of Patient Advocates and advance and disseminate SHCA Professional Standards was supported by CSU. The need for such a program has been clearly demonstrated by the overwhelming response to the PACP. Participants evaluate the courses as being well designed, relevant to their roles, and very interesting. In addition, discussion with colleagues from across the country was noted as a valuable added benefit.
The Program is based on the strong foundation of the Patient Advocate Core Competencies that were defined by the SHCA 2000 Role Delineation Work Group.
