Continuing
Education certificates will be awarded based on the portion of the
conference attended. Occupational Therapists must attend the entire
conference to receive 9.5 contact hours approved by the Occupational
Therapy Sections of the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and
Athletics Trainers Board. OTs who only attend a portion of the
conference will receive a certificate of attendance and may submit that
individually if desired.

Orff Shulwerk Certification: Level I
Orff
Schulwerk
is
a unique child-centered approach to music education that makes use
of children’s natural affinities for moving, singing, and improvised
play. Based on the work of Carl Orff, Orff Schulwerk builds musical
concepts and skills through speech, poetry, song, games, and movement in
a creative, playful atmosphere, where students experience the elements
of music in an active way.
Who Should Attend: Level I is for
anyone with training in music, who wishes to further develop his/her
teaching skills. This two-week intensive course will provide you with a
foundation for using the Orff Schulwerk approach to teaching music and
movement to children.

Instructors:
BethAnn Hepburn
(Movement and Pedagogy) teaches music to children in grades
4-6 in Streetsboro, Ohio, where she was awarded the 2003 Teacher of the
Year. She is the Region VI representative for the AOSA National Board of
Trustees, and the professional development co-chair for General Music
for the Ohio Music Education Association. She has presented workshops
for OMEA, NOCKA, Hiram College Literacy Links, and several Orff chapters
throughout the United States, and China. She also teaches movement for
the Villanova Orff Schulwerk course.
Lynn Huenemann (Recorder) has 23 years of elementary music
teaching experience in Ohio public schools and has taught music
education methods at Heidelberg College. She holds Orff Levels I-III
certificates from Cleveland State University. She has presented
workshops for OMEA and OSGM, as well as area colleges. She serves on the
National Advisory Board of the American Orff Schulwerk Association, is a
member of the American Recorder Society, and was a part of the
Introduction to Orff Schulwerk faculty at CSU in 2004.
Donna Massello-Chiacos (Level I) is Music Director of San Roque
School in Santa Barbara, California, where she works with students from
pre-school through eighth grade. She holds a BA in Piano Performance
from the University of California, and a Master of Arts in Music
Education with emphasis in Orff Schulwerk from the University of St.
Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Donna has presented for the AOSA National
Conference and for chapters throughout the United States. Donna is a
teacher trainer throughout the US, Canada and Taiwan and is also an
active concert pianist.
