reviews end‑stage diseases with a focus on signs/symptoms of the dying process.
You will examine the clinical signs that lead to death to enhance your
understanding of why certain symptoms appear and what they may indicate. Your
knowledge of this process will enable you to provide more comprehensive care to
patients and their families as well as increase your comfort level.

Course Objectives:
- Identify feelings associated with the dying process and the dying
person.
- Discuss the importance of caring for the "total person" and his needs.
- Explain "how to communicate" with the dying patient.
- Recognize specific signs and symptoms indicative of impending death.
- Explain non-pharmacological strategies that are useful during this time.
- Discuss basic pharmacological methods useful during the last 48 hours.
- Identify the caregiver and ways that he may help.
- Discuss grief and its importance to all associated with the one who is
dying.
