Excel 2007: Formulas & Functions

Performing and re-performing calculations is one of the main reasons to use Excel. This course covers creating formulas and using Excel’s built in functions. The difference between Relative and Absolute references will be explained. Naming and linking cells will also be covered. Some common functions such as Sum, Count and Average will be covered. In addition, If, Vlookup, Text, and nested functions will be discussed.

Important note: This is a web-based online course developed and offered by Cleveland State University (Division of Continuing Education). To participate you need to have average web skills, a computer, Internet access, and an e-mail address. All other directions will be provided to you, via email and Blackboard, during the course. You will need to log into the course web site at least once for each of the lessons. Your work and access time will be monitored by the instructor. You must begin the course within the first week of the time period and may request a one week grace period to conclude all lessons if necessary.

By the end of the day participants will be able to:

  • Understand the difference between relative and absolute reference
  • Name cells and reference the name in formulas
  • Use common functions such as Sum, Average, and Count.
  • Work with other functions such as If, Sumif, VLookup, and Text functions
  • Create nested functions

Prerequisites: Excel: Introduction or comparable experience.
