Joanne Sheldon has been involved with hospice care
since 1980 when she began her career at Connecticut
Hospice, Inc., the first hospice in the US. During these
years she has cared for numerous patients and their
families and also has taught locally, regionally,
nationally and internationally about Hospice to
professionals and to public communities.
Joanne is a Registered Nurse, a teacher and a certified
Spiritual Director. She has earned masters degrees in
both nursing and education and is a nationally Certified
Hospice and Palliative Nurse and is a certified
Spiritual Director. Presently she offers numerous
programs on topics related to dying patients, their
disease process, pain management, spirituality,
communication, advance directives, ethics, culture,
grief and loss, journaling, and story telling. She has
also published on many of these topics. Ms. Sheldon is
an adjunct faculty member at many local colleges and
teaches continuing education courses at them. She also
provides individual and group Spiritual Direction. In
her spare time, she enjoys quilting, knitting, reading,
and traveling.
