CENTER FOR REAL ESTATE BROKERAGE AND MARKETS

Created in 1992, the Real Estate Research Center’s purpose is to act as a catalyst and focal point for real estate research and education in all areas of real estate. Its primary areas of focus are real estate finance, investment, and valuation, with a special emphasis on real estate brokerage/agency and markets. Real estate development is also included.

Recently, Dr. James R. Webb, Professor of Finance and Director of the Real Estate Research Center, was awarded the first ever David Ricardo Medal by the American Real Estate Society. The award was given to Dr. Webb in recognition of his outstanding and long term influence on Real Estate Research and thought, as evidenced by his extensive and well-cited publication record. Over his career, he has profoundly influenced the research directions, teaching and practice of the real estate discipline. Dr. Webb was also recently appointed as a National “Distinguished Fellow” of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP)

Scholarships

The Greater Cleveland Mortgage Banker's Association scholarship is provided every year to deserving undergraduate and graduate students.

The Paul J. Everson Real Estate Scholarship is also awarded each year.

Funding Currently, the Center has an endowment of about $500,000 and continues to raise additional funds. These funds are used to:

  • support the Anthony J. Calabrese Distinguished Real Estate Lecture Series;
  • fund the Paul J. Everson Real Estate Scholarships;
  • fund $1,000 manuscript prizes at the American Real Estate Society's annual meeting, the EuropeanReal Estate Society's annual meeting, and the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society's annual meeting;
  • fund research seminars for faculty throughout the year;
  • purchase data, research studies, and travel to enhance faculty research in real estate.

Each year, the Center further conducts and promotes real estate research by helping faculty obtain grants from outside agencies and organizations.

Research Seminars

Each academic year, a research seminar series is conducted. In past years, speakers from Hong Kong, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia have appeared. In addition, research presentations are made each year by faculty from other universities, such as Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, and Penn State University, as well as from CSU.
