Career Resource Library

career resource library

Located in the Career Services Center, the Career Resource Library is a comprehensive source of career information designed to help students with their job searches, including information on job search strategies, occupational trends and outlooks, and specific employer information; in all, we have more than 200 volumes.

Due to the continuous use of materials, items may not be checked out of the library. For this reason, students should not wait until the last minute to do research on an employer, occupations, or on interviewing skills. All students will find it to their advantage to plan time in the library as the best jobs will go to those graduates who are prepared for their job search.

The following may be found in the library:

  • Permanent Employer Files — brochures, annual reports, etc. for various employers. These should be read before an interview. Some employers have three-ring notebooks with more extensive information. (Take home literature is also available in the Career Resource Library.)

  • Periodical Files — such magazines as Business Week, Black Collegian, Crain's Cleveland Business, etc. These contain good, current information. The College Placement Journal and the Occupational Outlook Quarterly are especially helpful.

  • Directories — useful for making employer contacts and for finding information about a specific field.

  • Occupational Information — a variety of books geared to provide information on specific career choices — outlook, salary, qualifications, duties, etc. Students should be familiar with this information before they begin interviewing.

  • Self Help Books — for help with résumé writing, interviewing, changing careers, etc.

  • Career Information — books and pamphlets on specific careers.

  • Government Files — information on various agencies.
  • Computers — Students may use our library computers to register on CSUcareerline, browse internet job search sites, research employers, and work on resumes and cover letters.

  • Videotapes — through both purchases and videotaping various programs held on campus, the Center has developed an extensive videotape collection. The center has a video area where these films can be viewed. Some companies coming to campus loan the college tapes to supplement the written literature provided to students.
