Department of Operations & Supply Chain Management

OSM Student Testimonial

1. Carly Pahl, Supply Chain Specialist at Parker Hannifin Corporation

I transferred to CSU after 3 years at my local community college looking for a general degree in Business Administration. The first Supply Chain class I took was with Rich Miller and it changed my career path. I loved the class and the knowledge I received from Rich Miller. I immediately met with Dr. Tukel and planned out the rest of my college career getting a degree in Supply Chain and Operations.

Later on, Dr. Tukel helped me land my first internship at the distribution center of the Cleveland Indians and my second internship with Garick, LLC, where I stayed for 9 months. Before finals of my last semester at CSU, Dr. Tukel contacted me on a school night wanting me to apply for an open position at Parker Hannifin Corporation. Before graduation, I had an interview with Parker Hannifin Corporation, American Greetings, Inc., and Garick, LLC offered me a job as well.

After graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management, I started working for Parker Hannifin Corporation and have really enjoyed working for the company. I really believe I would not be where I am today if it were not for Dr. Tukel.

2. Ava Carter, Buyer/Planner at Technical Consumer Products

While earning my MBA with a focus on Operations & Supply Chain Management, I attended a panel discussion on campus and was able to meet with key supply chain professionals. I was offered an internship at Technical Consumer Products (TCP), which quickly lead to full-time employment as a Buyer/Planner. TCP is a global lighting manufacturer whose president and CEO, Ellis Yan, is also a Cleveland State University alumnus.

Currently, I am the Supply Chain Planner responsible for demand planning of the Exit and Emergency Lighting product line. I manage approximately $3 million of domestic inventory and maintain the inventory at operational levels. I am also responsible for management of approximately 400 TEU of product moving directly to customers from our factory in China.

3. Christopher Pokorny, Applications Developer in the Office of Research & Graduate Studies at Cleveland State University.

I am currently working as an Applications Developer in the Office of Research & Graduate Studies at Cleveland State University. There are a wide range of duties assigned to me, including the development and maintenance of PeopleSoft modules, updating the offices' web presence, working on special projects, and providing general IT support to staff members. I attended CSU from 2007-2012, where I received my Bachelor's and Master's in Computer & Information Science.

Although my background is in computer science, I also attribute my success in my path toward becoming a professional to having minored in Operations & Supply Chain Management as an undergraduate. In modern-day IT-applications and ERP systems, it is important to have a fundamental understanding of the business side of things - particularly how certain data is classified and how a workflow can be improved by cutting waste out of a system. The OSM Department offered a lot of niche courses related to these areas, complementing my degree and now my professional career perfectly.

4. David Jarmusik, Stratigic Sourcing Intern at Ridge Tool Company

I'm an Operations and Supply Chain Management major at the Monte Ahuja College of Business. Being an OSM major at CSU has come with many benefits. The OSM department has been responsible for getting me both of my internships. During the spring 2013 semester, I worked as a distribution intern for the Cleveland Indians. I currently have an internship at Ridge Tool Company a division of Emerson Inc. I can honestly say that Dr. Oya Tukel has been one of the most influential and involved professors in my entire career. She is constantly helping students succeed.

5. Zachary Apperson, Logistics Planner at Logistics Operations Center, Airgas Inc.

I joined the Cleveland State University MBA program after graduating from Baldwin Wallace College with a B.S. in Mathematics. I was unsure of what specialization to follow until I happened upon OSM 511. After taking this course, I was intrigued by Supply Chain Management and decided to see what it had to offer.

I set up a meeting with Dr. Tukel, the head of the Supply Chain Management Department, and everything seemed to fall in place. She introduced me to the numerous opportunities Supply Chain Management had to offer. She encouraged me to submit my resume immediately for employment. Within a month, I was hired as a Logistics Planner at Airgas Logistics Operations Center. This has been a tremendous opportunity for me to apply my analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment. The introduction to OSM opened the right doors for me.

6. Jose Almanza, Operations Management department at University of Texas, El Paso

The SAP course offered by the CSU OSM department is one of the best courses I have been a part of. It was well worth the travel from Texas to be a part of this course as a non degree seeking student, and I recommend it to anyone seeking to enhance their OSM and business knowledge. Two thumbs way up for Dr. Tukel's OSM program.
