On Friday, June 1, OSM students traveled to Toledo to tour the Toledo-Lucas County Port. The trip, a part of CSU's summer Northeast Ohio Supply Chain Tours, was arranged by the Operations and Supply Chain Management Department.
Nearly half of all United States and Canadian industrial markets are within a day's drive of the Toledo port. Due to its central location, nearly 100 freight shipping companies operate at the port. Its railway hub services 100,000 passengers a year, making it Ohio's busiest rail hub. The sea port provides intermodal access for rail transport and trucking. This port is a major stop along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway System.
The student tour was led by Mr. Joseph W. Cappel, Director of Cargo Development. He is responsible for working with the Port of Toledo's air and seaport terminals to increase and diversify cargo development domestically and internationally.
