Four two part sessions are planned. All four will begin with an intense 40 minute instruction on the essential basics of using Excel. You will be sufficiently briefed so that you will be able to execute the following 40 minute session covering one of the following topics:
-Graphically representing your data in graphs and pivot tables
-In depth look at equations and formulas
-Advanced data importing techniques
-Advanced data exporting techniques
Beginning October 31st.
The Accounting Association and Beta Alpha Psi are encouraging members to get certified by Linklearn so that you can participate in volunteer tax preparation on campus. Many people in the Cleveland Metro area can be helped to fulfill their federal obligation that funds the services we use everyday. In addition to the gratitude of the people you assist, you will receive experience that employers are looking for. Give back to the community in a way that few can.
There will be two nights where we will be commandeering a computer lab. People that have taken the exam will be available for you to ask questions and help you pass the test by helping you navigate the site and making sure you have the reference resources you will need. We will take a few minutes to fill out the form to request a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) that you can use in place of your Social Security Number(SSN). A popular application is on tax returns for clients when the preparer's TIN can be used in place of a SSN when the preparer signs off on it. This allows you more privacy in regards to your SSN. Documents that need to be turned in will be collected and hand delivered the next day saving you the trouble.
Step One: Take a few minutes to look over Pub 4012
Pub 4012 : Pub 4012 a non-IRS reference for volunteer tax preparers.
Step Two: Get Certified
Volunteer Tax Preparer Certification : This is a web test that you may have other windows open for. I suggest having Pub 4012, IRS.gov (for forms & reference-- i.e. Pub 17 and forms), a paper 1040 form, a calculator, and possibly MS Excel available.
Note: This is the first thing we will go over in the November 2008 meeting.
Step Three: Forward the following documents to the address below:
Ben Nichols
Enterprise Community Partners
3500 Lorain Ave.
Suite 300
Cleveland, OH 44113
If you have any questions feel free to approach Brad Chesney, e-mail us at csuaa@csuohio.edu or Kathleen Matthews, at kathy_r_matthews@yahoo.com
Note: Upon completion of the test with a passing score at the meeting, we will deliver your paperwork for you.
Deferred Ideas Due to Lack of Interest:
With thousands and thousands of dollars of computing equipment at our disposal, we should join the 21st century and have an on-line signup form. In addition to eliminating the need for paper to do a miniscule favor to the environment by going paperless, it will also eliminate writing, decoding, and data entry.
In line with the electronic membership, we should also be collecting our fees electronically. It is just plain inefficient and problematic to accept cash and checks only. Interested individuals should contact AA leadership.
Many students are buying their books on-line. A team to organize a 'CSU only' book exchange forum needs some people to plan and execute it. Ensure low purchase prices, correct books, exceptionally short shipping/pickup times, and higher selling prices by cutting out the middle men.
There was a suggestion that we could visit local schools to inspire children. It is realistic to apire to graduating from college. Since this is new, we have no policies or related scheduled events. Interested people please contact us and we will see what we can do to start someting new and positive.
