What is academic jeopardy?
Academic jeopardy means that your cumulative GPA is (or will be) less than 2.3.
- You are in academic jeopardy: if your grades do not improve, it will be increasingly difficult for you to improve your cumulative GPA. This may lead to academic probation, loss of financial aid, and even dismissal from the University.
My GPA is between 2.3 - 2.0: What happens next?
- Passing a class is not always enough. Some majors and degree programs have more difficult grade requirements.
Not attaining a high enough grade may mean you will have to repeat the course which could put you behind schedule for graduation. For example:
- If you are struggling in only one type of class, such as math classes, please make an appointment to see your advisor to discuss your options. There may be a related major or degree that will suit you better.

What is Academic Probation?
Academic probation is a standing that is applied to you if your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 but your term GPA is above 1.0. If your term GPA falls below 1.0, you will be automatically dismissed.
However, if you are already on probation, and your cumulative GPA remains below 2.0:
- If you have earned 60 or fewer semester credits, your records will be reviewed by the college for continued probation or academic dismissal. Evidence of substantial academic improvement is required for continued probation.
- If you have earned more than 60 semester credits, you will be automatically dismissed.
Academic Probation: What happens next?
- Probation is a serious warning that you need to improve your academic performance, and if you do not you will be academically dismissed.
- Make an appointment with an advisor as soon as possible.
- You will not be able to register for additional classes until you meet with your advisor.
- When you meet with your advisor, you will make a success contract that details how you are going to improve your grades so that your cumulative GPA will go back up above 2.0.
- If you have financial aid, you are at risk of losing it. Please see the financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
- You will need to sign up for the "Keys to Success" workshop on Blackboard. You will automatically receive an email explaining how to log in for this workshop. You will be required to participate before the start of the semester that begins your probation.

What is Academic Dismissal?
Academic dismissal may occur for a number of reasons:
- You may be academically dismissed if you earn a semester GPA below 1.00.
- You may be academically dismissed if you have 60 or fewer semester credits, you have been on probation for a semester already, and you did not acheive a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- If you have earned more than 60 semester credits and did not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher after a semester on probation, you will be automatically dismissed.
Academic Dismissal: What happens next?
- Academic dismissal serves as an opportunity for you to reflect on and address the issues that caused your poor performance. You may need to readjust your work/school balance, take care of family issues, or even rethink your major.
- If you have been academically dismissed from the university, you may petition for readmission following a one-year absence (minimum).
- To initiate a readmission request, an appointment with an academic advisor is required.
- Please note that there are deadlines for readmission requests, please inquire at the advising office.
