Welcome to the Department of Finance at the Monte Ahuja College of Business. We are pleased to offer our students a degree in Finance which is AACSB accredited and taught by highly qualified staff. Our professors have received their advanced training and diplomas from many leading business schools and they bring a wide array of field experience to the classroom.
You have chosen a major which opens up the door for excellent and challenging career opportunities. Our curricular offerings help achieve specialization in different functional areas of finance, i.e., investments, financial markets & institutions, and real estate. In an effort to go beyond the typical classroom training, we have established the KeyBank Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). A stock portfolio currently worth $400,000 is managed by a select group of qualified undergraduate students majoring in finance as well as MBA students. This is an excellent opportunity for the finance majors to gain real life experience which will prepare them for their future careers.
Students completing their finance degree are strongly encouraged to prepare and sit for the Level I of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam. The Monte Ahuja College of Business in collaboration with Stalla offers the CFA Level I review course for academic credit. Students demonstrating progress in the CFA program find themselves better marketable to potential employers particularly in the areas of investment and portfolio management.
Being in the heart of downtown Cleveland, CSU students have a great opportunity to benefit from internship opportunities at several well known financial, investment, corporate, and government entities that include UBS, Northcoast Research, Longbow Research, Highland Consulting, Concord Advisors, Roulston Investment Partners, LNAM International, Koyo Bearings Co., Sherwin-Williams, and Defense Finance & Accounting Service.
We have a very active Student Chapter of the Financial Management Association (FMA). The membership in FMA opens up several opportunities and benefits such as gaining leadership experiences, participating in various professional and volunteer activities, and attending conferences (e.g., FMA Conference and R.I.S.E. Forum).
I encourage you to take some time and discover the opportunities awaiting you in the Department of Finance and I wish you the very best in your educational experiences at Cleveland State!
