Do I need to take the GMAT or GRE?

GMAT-GRE WaiverThe College of Business may waive the GMAT or GRE for some of their Master's Degree programs depending upon an applicant's performance in their undergraduate coursework. Please see below for details on the requirements to waive the GMAT/GRE requirement for each graduate business program, or contact our Graduate Business Advising Office.


Master of Accountancy (MAcc):

  • Waived for applicants with a 3.00 undergraduate GPA from a domestic (U.S.) college or university which is at least regionally accredited.
  • Waived for applicants holding an advanced degree (another Master's, Doctorate, M.D. or J.D.) from a domestic (U.S.) College or university which is at least regionally accredited, or for students who are currently enrolled in the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law.

Masters of Business Administration (MBA):

For Cleveland State University BBA Alumni:
  • Waived for applicants with a 3.00 undergraduate GPA who have earned their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State.
  • Cleveland State University undergraduate business alumni may also qualify for additional courses to be waived in the MBA program. Learn more about the CSU BBA 2 MBA program here.
For Business Alumni from AACSB-accredited Colleges of Business:
  • The GMAT/GRE is also waived for applicants with a 3.00 undergraduate GPA who have earned a business degree from an AACSB-accredited school or college of business within 5 years from the date of their application.
  • For a list of Universities who are AACSB-accredited, visit the AACSB website here.
What if I do not have an undergraduate business degree?
  • If you do not have an undergraduate business degree, then you are still required to take the GMAT/GRE.
For the joint Juris Doctor/MBA (JD/MBA) Program:
  • For the joint Juris Doctor/MBA (JD/MBA) program offered with the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law, you must take the LSAT and apply through the College of Law. Learn more about the admissions requirements here.

Master of Computer Information Science: Information Systems (MCIS-IS):

  • Waived for applicants with a 3.00 undergraduate GPA from a domestic (U.S.) college or university which is at least regionally required.
  • The GMAT/GRE is also waived for applicants holding a terminal degree (Doctorate, M.D. or J.D.) from a domestic (U.S.) College or university which is at least regionally accredited, or for students who are currently enrolled in the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law.
