Basic Educational Requirements for Ohio C.P.A.


  1. The State of Ohio requires all students to have earned a baccalaureate degree to include a minimum of 150 semester hours of college credit.
  1. From the courses listed below, a minimum of 30 semester hours in accounting must be completed, with covereage in auditing, financial accounting, management accounting, professional ethics, and taxation. Please note that more than 30 semester hours of courses are listed below.


    ACT 221 Introductory Accounting I (Financial Acct)

    ACT 222 Introductory Accounting II (Managerial Acct)

    ACT 321 Cost Accounting

    ACT 331 Intermediate Accounting I

    ACT 332 Intermediate Accounting II

    ACT 361 Tax I

    ACT 388 Accounting Systems

    ACT 441 Advanced Accounting

    ACT 451 Auditing (NOTE: Internal Auditing is not a permissible substitute)

    ACT 462 Tax II

    ACT 484 Governmental and Institutional Accounting

    BLW 411 Business Law and Ethics

    Note for Graduate students: graduate credits are weighted more heavily for the Ohio CPA exam.  As a result, a minimum of 18 graduate credits are required in auditing, financial accounting, management accounting, professional ethics, and taxation.  Please note that more than 18 semester hours of courses are listed below.

    ACT 531 & 532 Intermediate Accounting I & II

    ACT 622 Attest Function (NOTE: Internal Auditing is not a permissible substitute)

    ACT 621 Federal Income Taxation

    ACT 631 Selected Topics in Accounting

    BLW 511 Business Law & Ethics


  2. A minimum of 24 semester hours in business courses other than accounting.  Economics and information systems are permitted to count as business subjects.

Graduate students should consult with CPA Board to see whether these requirements are waived.
