The Accounting Major prepares students for careers in business, government, and public accounting. It also offers a background in business law, information systems, and tax issues to qualify the student for a leadership position in business. The Accounting major is one of only 168 accounting programs worldwide that hold Accounting Accreditation from AACSB International, the hallmark of excellence in management education.
The Accounting major is administered through the Department of Accounting, whose faculty bring significant work experience to the classroom and emphasize real world problem-solving. Faculty design learning experiences that enhance students’ communication skills, understanding of technology, appreciation of diversity, and comprehension of ethical issues.
Upon acceptance into the Accounting program you will be assigned a faculty advisor who will help you design a course of study that suits your career goals.
Students in the Accounting major can specialize in one of four areas within the field of accounting by concentrating their electives in their area of interest:
Internships are available through the Department of Accounting. Cooperative education opportunities are available through the Career Services Center at (216) 687-2233. The pre-requisite for a co-op position is CSC-121.

In order to declare an accounting major, students must complete all Lower Division Requirements and earn a 2.50 GPA in both ACT 221 and ACT 222. All accounting majors must complete a minimum of 39 credits in accounting and business law.
