ON THE WALLJanuary 20 to March 10, 2006 |
|

The image depicted in this drawing relates to a previous artwork that I created in 1997, in which I had depicted a man's head laying on its side on a table. I used myself as the model, which is typical of most of my figurative work. Self-portraiture has always held a certain fascination, perhaps because it seems to deal so directly with the element of time.
This is the first full color drawing that I have created directly onto a wall. The drawing was created with pastel and charcoal, rubbing it into the wall by hand and with cloth, working from a photo reference, approximately 8 x 10 inches. No projection or mechanical aid was utilized. Working on the wall is a much more physical experience than the usual process. It seemed appropriate on some level to be rubbing my hand raw, depicting human skin.
