about dichroism

Howlett

Ray Howlette is an innovator who has pioneered the use of this astonishing technique in artistic applications of ‘space-age' imaging.

dichroism

“Dichroism,” a new genre in California art, has become an original American art movement. Ray Howlett became devoted to dichroism, the newest kind of color, in 1978 at his studio in Malibu, California . Now there are hundreds of artists around America using the uniquely brilliant dichroic color.

Howlett sculpture is internationally unique, but it overlaps several categories: glass; electric light; mixed media; California light and space; the Los Angeles look; illusionism; op art; mysticism in art; structuralism; 4th dimension in art; art and technology; kaleidoscope art; infinity art; interactive art; kinetic art; dichroism.
