About the Event In this public talk, noted artist, writer, and abbot John Daido Loori Roshi will use images and words to provide insight into one of the central issues of The Buddha Project: how creativity and Buddhism (in this case, Zen) relate and resonate. A question-and-answer period and reception will follow Daido Roshi's talk. The event is free, and all are welcome. Voluntary donations are appreciated. About Daido Roshi and The Zen of Creativity "In the tradition of the classic Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind, The Zen of Creativity is a groundbreaking introduction to a long overlooked but essential aspect of the Zen tradition -- the creative spirit. Using the ancient practices of calligraphy, poetry, brush painting, and tea ceremony as a starting point, John Daido Loori, one of the West’s most engaging Zen teachers, explores the many profound ways that Zen can enrich our lives. "One of the most accessible and authentic Buddhist teachers alive today, John Daido Loori is the founder and abbot of Zen Mountain Monastery in Mount Tremper, New York, where he resides. Loori has appeared on NBC, CBS, CNN, and in the pages of Time, Newsweek, and The New York Times as a spokesperson for American Buddhism. His books include Riding the Ox Home, The Eight Gates of Zen, Heart of Being, and The Art of Just Sitting." -- From the cover of John Daido Loori's book, The Zen of Creativity: Cultivating Your Artistic Life, available from Ballantine Books.
