Yom Ha
Shoah Yom Ha-Shoah (day in commemoration of the Holocaust) on the
27th of Nisan, is a recent addition to the Jewish calendar. The customs
of ritual and liturgy are still in a state of development because the
event itself is still too real to be symbolic. Death is always marked in
Judaism by the lighting of a special candle. This commemoration is now
marked by the prayers and lighting of a six-branched menorah standing
for the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust period. |
