Yom Ha Shoah Menorah

Jerusalem, c.1980
Brass
H 8 3⁄4 Diam. 2 (base)
Suburban Temple-Kol Ami

On the inch-high tubular base of this candle holder is inscribed “Yad Vashem, Jerusalem” in Hebrew and in English. The base supports a vertically lined ribbon-like stem that curls upward in a circle, supporting six inverted cones that hold thin tapers. The six candles represent the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust period.

Yom Ha-Shoah is commemorated on the 27th of Nisan, when a special service is created in the individual synagogues during which the six lights are kindled along with the traditional yahrzeit candle.
