Levin College Nationally Ranked – Again!
U.S. News and World Report has again ranked CSU’s master of public administration program second in the nation in the area of city management and urban policy. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs has attained this prestigious ranking for the past 10 years. Overall, the College is ranked 45th among the nation’s 269 public affairs schools. Student-Athletes Excel in Classroom
138 student-athletes, representing every intercollegiate sport at CSU, were recognized for their academic accomplishments at the 18th annual John Konstantinos Athletic Academic Honors Luncheon.
The student-athletes maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better through the end of the fall 2007 semester. The baseball team led all CSU sports with 19 honorees. Women’s soccer was second with 13, followed by volleyball (12) and softball (10). Click here to read the complete story.
Business Students Take Top Honors
A team of three students from the Nance College of Business Administration took first place at the 2008 Ohio Human Resource Games in Cincinnati. All three seniors are officers in the CSU chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. In a Jeopardy-style format, teams answered questions related to human resource management and organizational development. Click here to read more.
Campus Safety
Cleveland State showed off its state-of-the-art emergency communications system and other safety enhancements to the downtown campus when it hosted A Higher Degree of Campus Safety. The day-long symposium featured Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones and an industry expert who led the crisis response team at Virginia Tech. Organized by SimplexGrinnell, a unit of Tyco Fire and Security, the event was designed to help senior administrators from across the nation make their institutions safer and more secure.

The two-day Fenn Legacy Celebration for all Fenn College graduates includes a Fenn Tower/Panel Hall luncheon, campus tour, film festivals, Lake Erie luncheon cruise and a dinner marking the 85th anniversary of the Co-operative Education Program and the 20th anniversary of the LINK Program.

Diversity Management Program Celebrates 10 Years
CSU’s Diversity Management Program marks its first decade with a conference on “Translating Theory and Research Findings into Best Practices” on Friday, May 9, and a pre-conference workshop on Thursday, May 8. Both events are from 8 am to 5 pm in the Levin College Atrium. Cost is $155.

Playhouse Square Nights
There’s still time to be part of CSU Alumni Nights at Playhouse Square for Tony Award-winning musicals The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Jersey Boys. Spelling Bee is Wednesday, May 7 at 7:30 pm at the Palace Theatre; orchestra (main floor) tickets are just $39. Emergency Succession Planning
Do you have an emergency succession plan in place for your business or organization? You will after attending an interactive workshop on Tuesday, May 13 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Levin College of Urban Affairs. Learn about crisis management, emergency leadership and succession plans from Susan Freimark, program manager of Levin College’s Center for Nonprofit Policy and Practice, and Brian Broadbent, executive director of Business Volunteers Unlimited. Design a Life: A Community of Ideas
Learn how creative activities promote health, wellness and quality of life at a two-day conference that brings together artists, craftspeople, musicians and writers for hands-on workshops, panel discussions and more. Keynote speakers will be Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi of Claremont Graduate University and Dr. Betty Yerxa of the University of Southern California.
Design a Life takes place at Cleveland State’s Main Classroom building on Friday, May 16 from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm and Saturday, May 17 from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Cost is $150.
CSU’s College of Science is co-sponsoring Design a Life along with the Cleveland Clinic, Euclid Hospital, Cleveland Institute of Art, Cuyahoga Community College, Lutheran Hospital, Judson at University Circle, Ursuline College, and the Art Therapy Studio. Proceeds benefit programs in the Art Department.

Vintage Ohio
One of the country’s most acclaimed food and wine events, Vintage Ohio brings thousands of people to Lake Farmpark for great wine, food and entertainment. This year’s event is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2.
Tickets are $25 at the gate and $22 in advance. But CSU alumni can purchase tickets for just $17 through July 27. Tickets include admission to the festival, a souvenir wine glass and complimentary sampling at more than 25 Ohio wineries.
