![]() "As a nursing leader, I have continued to provide care to patients at the bedside by spending scheduled clinical time with nurses. A few years ago, I was with a nurse in Labor & Delivery assisting her in the care of a laboring patient. The patient, her mother and I all had red hair. The obstetrician arrived close to the birth of the baby. He handed me the scissors to cut the umbilical cord referring to me as the grandmother. I hesitated and looked into the eyes of the real grandmother who smiled and nodded in approval stating that she hoped another 'little red head' would soon join the family." - Cathy Koppelman, BSN '78 Catch this and more funny moments from our Distinguished Alumni Award recipients on Saturday, June 5 at 5:00 p.m. Koppelman, chief nursing officer at University Hospitals and Case Medical Center, will be among those honored at the award ceremony's 20th anniversary celebration.
