Renowned Expert to Bring 30 Years of Law, Sports Expertise to CSU

Interim Provost Geoffrey Mearns recently announced that former IMG chief legal counsel and current majority owner of the Lake County Captains, Peter A. Carfagna, will join the University as an Executive-in-Residence in the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard College, a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and a Rhodes Scholar, Carfagna will teach in the areas of sports law, business of sports and sports management. In so doing, he will assist students with acquiring internships with professional sports teams and sports-related organizations. Read more.

Rosa Orta Cruz is First CSU Student to Earn Prestigious International Scholarship

This year, more than 150 CSU students will study abroad in more than 15 countries. One of these students, Rosa Orta Cruz, never thought she would realize her dream of studying abroad, but because of her achievements, and with the help of the CSU Center for International Services and Programs, Rosa is currently in Spain, living her dream. Rosa is the first student in CSU history to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. The Gilman Scholarship looks for students who have excellent academic records, are interested in studying in diverse countries and have diverse ethnic backgrounds. Read more.

CSU Faculty Member Receives Fulbright Award
Regennia N. Williams, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research at Obafemi Awolowo University (IFE) in Nigeria during the 2009-2010 academic year, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Read more.

College of Law Dean Assumes Duties of CSU's Chief Academic Officer
President Ronald M. Berkman recently named Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Dean Geoffrey S. Mearns the University's interim provost. "Geoffrey Mearns is the right person to fill the critical role of interim provost," said President Berkman in making the appointment. "I thank Geoff for his willingness to serve. We are fortunate to have him join our senior leadership team." Read more.

Pat Tillman Foundation Names CSU a Tillman Military Scholarship University Partner
The Pat Tillman Foundation has selected Cleveland State University as a new partner in the Tillman Military Scholarship program which provides educational scholarships for veterans, service members, and their families. In 2009, the Pat Tillman Foundation awarded $642,000 to the inaugural class of 52 Tillman Military Scholars pursuing education at every level from freshmen undergraduates to Ph.D. candidates. CSU First in Ohio to Receive State Board Accreditation for Master's-Level Chemical Dependency Counseling Program
The Board Accreditation of Behavioral Science Master's Degree Programs is the first in a series of degree accreditations aimed at addressing the growing need for professionals in the field. The CSU program is unique in that it incorporates a partnership between the University's School of Social Work and the Counseling, Administration, Supervision, and Adult Learning (CASAL) Department in the College of Education and Human Services.
