CSU Students and Sustainability

SustainabilityThe Nance College of Business recently partnered with the Fenn College of Engineering to offer a new and innovative course on the Design and Development of Green Consumer Products. The course was led by Dr. Oya Icmeli Tukel, professor of operations management and business statistics, and Dr. Majid Rashidi, professor of mechanical engineering. Working in cross-disciplinary teams using the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem-Solving) process, students identified the problem to be solved, the ideal final result and equation of costs and benefits. The prototypes presented included an improved mop and dustpans, adjustable hot-rollers, and even a ticket printer/inventory kiosk for Toys-R-Us. Some students have even begun the process of filing patents for their new consumer products.
