2009 Ballot

All graduates of Cleveland State University are members of the CSU Alumni Association – YOUR VOTE COUNTS! Please take a few minutes and complete this slate to elect Board directors to the Cleveland State University Alumni Association. Board directors serve a three-year term of office. The deadline for voting is October 30, 2009.

The week of November 9, elected Board directors will be listed on the alumni web site. Directors will be installed at the November 18 Board meeting. Call 216.687.2078 for location and time of meeting.

If you prefer to receive a paper slate, call 216.687.2078. Your active participation in the election process is another way to demonstrate support for the Cleveland State University Alumni Association (CSUAA).

If you would like to be a candidate for next year’s election, send your resume and a letter of intent to serve to alumassoc@csuohio.edu. Visit the alumni web site frequently at www.csuohio.edu/alumni for upcoming events and programs.

CANDIDATES FOR THE CSU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Please approve or disapprove the slate of candidates.  If you check ‘disapprove slate,’ space is provided at the end of the slate for a write-in candidate. The results of the election will be placed on the Alumni Association web page at www.csuohio.edu/alumni the week of November 9, 2009.

Slates must be received in the office of Alumni Affairs by October 30, 2009.  Slates received after October 30 will be disqualified.

Patrick Timothy Baker, 1997 BS Occupational Therapy/2002 Master of Health Science, College of Science
Baker has had 19 years of management experience. He currently is employed by the Cleveland Clinic as an Occupational Therapist, Geriatric Clinical Specialist. Since graduating from CSU, he has continued to support the Occupational Therapy Department. He established the Karen Bradley Armstrong Scholarship and lectures for OT students. Baker believes it is important to both the Occupational Therapy Department and the profession that he gives back so that others may be able to receive rewards similar to the ones he has enjoyed. He serves in several positions in his church and participates in outreach services to the Cleveland community. He lives in Richfield.
Doris A. Chandler (INCUMBENT), 1995 BA Psychology, College of Science
Chandler has served as president of the Black Alumni Organization (BAO) and continues to serve as a director on the executive committee. She has just completed a term as representative of the BAO to the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association and a member of the Curtis Wilson Scholarship Committee. As a member of the Board, Chandler served as chair of the Distinguished Alumni Awards Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. She is currently a member of the Alumni Relations Committee. Her community involvement includes volunteering as an auditor for her church credit union and working as a volunteer for Greater Cleveland Volunteers. She lives in East Cleveland.
Ann Eland (INCUMBENT), 1974 MED Education, College of Education and Human Services
Eland is a Literacy Specialist/Program Coordinator for the Learning Disabilities Association of Northeast Ohio. She has served on the CSUAA Board of Directors for three years. She currently serves on the Alumni Relations Committee where she was the 2009 co-chair for the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner. She also serves on advisory committees for Greater Cleveland Volunteers (formerly RSVP), the South Euclid/Lyndhurst Schools Curriculum committee, Jewish Community Federation tutoring project, and volunteers for the Kids in Need Resource Center in Cleveland. Ann lives in South Euclid.
Katherine R. (Kemer) Free, 2009 Executive MBA, Nance College of Business
Free is employed as an Executive Assistant for Olympic Steel, Incorporated. Currently she is co-chair of Olympic Steel’s Corporate Citizenship Committee which focuses on volunteerism and giving back to the communities in which the firm is located. She is also involved with St. Augustine Health Campus located in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. She says that the only way to build on her degree from CSU is to get actively involved and make her degree even more valuable. She wants to show her son that the contribution that one person can make to an organization, especially an organization that is so vital to our community, is important. She wants to work with the Association and the business community to keep talented, young graduates in Northeast Ohio. Free lives in North Olmsted.
Stephanie Ann Jansky, 2000 BA/English and Communication; 2002 Master of Applied Communication Theory and Methodology, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
Jansky is the Development Manager for medWish International. She has served in many civic and community outreach efforts. including the Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club Networking Committee, the Cleveland Social Media Club Steering Committee, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and the City Club New Leaders. She also serves on the Cleveland MOTTEP Advisory and the Donate Life Rose Parade Float Executive Boards. “I am a staunch advocate for Cleveland State University. I had a tremendous experience as a student and a part-time faculty member. CSU is truly one of Cleveland’s gems and it needs to be celebrated and recognized as such,” she says. Free lives in Cleveland.
Daniel Laskowski, 2002 BS Chemistry, College of Science
Laskowski is a Senior Principle Research Engineer in the Respiratory Institute and Department of Pathobiology at the Cleveland Clinic. He serves in the following organizations: Habitat for Humanity, Bay Men’s Club, American Cancer Society and American Lung Association. He also serves on the Institutional Review Board of Invacare Corporation. He hopes that he can help CSU continue on its pathway of excellence towards helping others. He lives in Cleveland.
Dennis J. Wessel, 1972 Mechanical Engineering, Fenn College of Engineering
Wessel is Senior Vice President, Director of Marketing for Karpinski Engineering. He has served on the Building Committee and Finance Council for St. Mary Church and currently serves on the Cleveland Green City Blue Lake Committee. Wessel’s firm has been involved in the design of new buildings on campus and is located near campus. He is interested in the expansion of the alumni base so financial and personnel resources can be available for the continued physical and educational expansion of the University and the region. He would like to see an increase in the research dollars that come to CSU. Wessel lives in Hudson.
