The Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSM) in the Bachelor of Business Administration program prepares you for a successful career in business by providing you with insight into the two critical components of organizational success: Tactics and strategy.  Our courses teach you how to systematically make decisions for businesses with sophisticated qualitative and quantitative approaches, arming you with valuable tools for managing modern supply chain networks. The OSM major enables you to ultimately assume managerial positions in a wide variety of for-profit or nonprofit organizations or governmental agencies. Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in the future will also find that the program provides a strong background in quantitative analysis.

Specialization
A student may be a general OSM major or optionally may specialize in one or more of the following areas: business statistics, supply chain management, project management, and global operations.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSM) is a major that can lead to an exciting and meaningful career involved with the welfare and growth of our economy. OSM majors are specialists who are in demand and frequently command higher salaries than do generalists. Because OSM specialists possess a variety of aptitudes and skills, numerous career opportunities are available to them, including: Production and Inventory Control Manager; Material Requirements Planning Specialist; Business Systems Analyst; Production Scheduler; Materials Manager; Quality Manager; Actuary; Banking Operations Supervisor; Market Research Specialist; Investment and Financial Analyst.

PROGRAM

The OSM major requires 30-32 credit hours beyond the upper division college core requirements.

Students interested in manufacturing careers should take the courses corresponding to the test modules required to become Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) of the Association for Operations Management (APICS), namely OMS 413, 417, and 419. CPIM certification is essential for promotion to managerial positions in the manufacturing area.

A student may become a general OSM major by fulfilling the above requirements. In addition, a student may specialize in an area of the OSM major as described below.

Business Statistics.  Choose at least 3 courses from the following list:
OMS 431 Sampling and Experimental Design (4-0-4).
OMS 433 Data Analysis (4-0-4).
OMS 434 Multivariate Analysis  (4-0-4)
OMS 435 Forecasting (4-0-4)
OMS 445 Quality Control and Management (4-0-4)

Students in this specialization can count up to 8 hours of electives from a functional area of business as part of their 23-24 hours of OMS electives.  These 8 hours must be approved by the student’s major adviser or the OSM chair.  This additional flexibility for the business statistics specialization is intended to allow a student to pursue an in-depth study of an area of application of statistics and possibly obtain a double major.  Functional areas of business include accounting, finance, information systems, management, marketing, and operations management.

Supply Chain Management.  Choose at least 3 courses from the following list:
OMS 412 Supply Chain Management (4-0-4)
OMS 413 Production Planning and Control (4-0-4).
OMS 417 Principles of Lean Operations (APICS) (4-0-4)
OMS 419 Operations Strategy  (APICS) (4-0-4)

Students in this specialization can count IST 465 as part of their 23-24 hours of OMS electives:

 RECOMMENDED SEQUENCE FOR OPERATIONS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENTMAJOR

Bachelor of Business Administration students are required to complete 128 hours of course work that includes university, college and major requirements.

* All B.B.A. core courses listed above must be completed prior to taking MLR 465, the capstone course in the BBA curriculum.
(W) Counts as a writing course for university graduation requirements. A minimum of three writing courses are required.
