MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Fenn College of Engineering
Since 1923, the Fenn College of Engineering has provided a tradition of high-quality undergraduate and graduate education in engineering and engineering technology. In our technological society, engineering is increasingly important in the global marketplace of business and industry. In fact, since the present and future well-being of the metropolitan Cleveland area is intricately linked with continued industrial growth, educated professionals such as engineers and technologists are in great demand.

Mechanical Engineering technology
The Engineering Technology Department at Cleveland State University offers two degree programs, leading to a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology or a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. These are upper-level-only baccalaureate degree programs. Students must complete the coursework equivalent to an Associate of Applied Science degree in electronic or mechanical engineering technology from an accredited college, university or technical institute before beginning to complete the upper-division courses in the program. Qualified Cleveland State University students who major in a discipline other than Engineering Technology may apply to enroll in upper-division courses.

The 2+2 program’s primary goal is to provide the student with sufficient skills to obtain immediate employment after completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree, while providing a path for furthering education and career opportunities with the completion of the Bachelor of Science degree.

The Electronic Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are offered on an evening basis only, requiring two years for completion. If a student chooses to take courses on a part-time basis, a longer time is needed.

Courses include applied math, science, communications, and senior design, among many others.


CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Projected growth in all engineering fields is three to nine percent through 2012. Cleveland State University’s engineering technology graduates are employed in a diverse range of industries including industrial control and automation, aerospace, medical, computer, defense and telecommunications industries.


PROGRAM
Here are just a few of the many special opportunities that Cleveland State University’s Fenn College of Engineering offers:

  • The Cooperative Education Program – Provides excellent opportunities for hands-on, paid work experience. Co-op enables our students to alternate between classes and work in the field at many prominent companies.
  • Fully accredited programs
  • Free tutoring
  • Classes emphasize teamwork and communication skills
  • Small classes and labs (average class size is 17)
  • State-of-the-art facilities – Large investments have been made in new labs and the renovation of classrooms and office space in Stilwell Hall, home of the Fenn College of Engineering.
  • Research Centers - Undergraduate students have the opportunity to do research with our nationally recognized faculty
  • Student Support and Activities - Fenn College offers personalized advising and the Engineering Student Enrichment Program, along with 14 student organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, the Society of Women Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers. Networking events are held with alumni, and two annual career fairs are offered.

A variety of scholarships are available for exceptional students as incoming freshmen and at different class levels. An Honor’s Program is also available for qualified students.

Mechanical Engineering Technology students are required to complete 80 hours (excluding orientation and co-op) of course work that includes university, college and major requirements. Adhering to the recommended sequence outlined below provides a balanced workload and ensures that students will have the proper prerequisites and knowledge for maximum benefit of these courses.
