The Institute of International Education (IIE), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board have recently announced the recommendation of Cleveland State graduating senior, Jacklyn Fry for a 2008-2009 Fulbright grant to teach English in South Korea next year.

Jackie will be one of over 1,400 U.S. students to travel abroad during 2008-09, through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Established in 1946, under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Program’s purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the rest of the world.

A double major in Anthropology and Sociology and a member of CSU Honors Program, Jackie will be leaving the U.S. in early July for six-weeks of intensive Korean language training and program orientation after which she will be posted to a secondary school in South Korea for the remainder of the academic year. Jackie plans to build on her extensive tutoring and mentoring experience here in the Cleveland Metropolitan School system to make meaning contributions to her host community in South Korea.
