2007-2008 Fulbright Recipient
Rama S.R. Gorla
Dr. Rama S.R. Gorla

Professor, Mechanical Engineering

SH 243

Nepal, 2007-2008

Dr. Gorla will spend Fall, 2007 semester teaching and performing research in mechanical engineering at Kathmandu University (KU), established in 1991 in Nepal . The young university has begun adding Master's level graduate programs in mechanical, electrical and computer engineering, and wants to apply research in these areas to local needs. Professor Gorla will educate the younger faculty who teach undergraduate courses, teach one course in graduate-level mechanical engineering and initiate and motivate research at the doctoral level.  KU hopes to send their faculty members to Cleveland State University to enroll into the Doctor of Engineering program. After earning their doctoral degrees, these faculty members will return to their home institution. Dr. Gorla will work with KU faculty in establishing a Ph.D. program, developing new courses, curricular restructuring, collaborating in research projects that will form the basis for collaborative conference presentations, article and book publications and further joint educational projects. Professor Gorla will apply for grants that would provide funding to purchase computer technology to equip KU with a class room dedicated to the computational methods in mechanical engineering. KU is hoping that Dr. Gorla's visit will bring a new dimension in engineering education in Nepal.
