My Fulbright experience in Uganda afforded the opportunity to support faculty in the Department of Nursing at Mbarara University of Science and Technology to refine the curriculum of undergraduate program in nursing (BNSc) and work with nurse leaders at three universities to establish a forum for addressing the development of professional nursing in the country. My research on risk perception among nurses afforded the opportunity to engage hospice nurses in conversations regarding how they provide care to this vulnerable population and at the same time protect themselves from harm.

On a personal note, this was my first trip to Africa. I was amazed at the resiliance of the people, the beauty of the land, the abundance of natural resources, the potential of the students, and the effects of war and disease on individuals, families, communities
