Exploratory Advising Team

The Exploratory Advising Office team of academic advisors and staff offer students a wealth of advising experience and knowledge.

David Bowditch, Director

David Bowditch earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Education degree in Adult Learning and Development from Cleveland State University. He has worked at Cleveland State University for 12 years, with all of his experience being in academic advising. He has served as a Director of University Advising since 2000.

Dr. Dillard Poole, Academic Advisor

Dr. Poole was born in Birmingham Alabama. Most of his life, however, has been spent right here in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a product of the Cleveland Public school system. His higher education accomplishments include the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Cleveland State University. These degrees were followed with the awarding of the Ph.D. from Indiana University. All degrees earned were in History. The Ph.D. major was in Latin American history. Over the last 28 years, he has been engaged in teaching history and is currently serving as an academic advisor.

Mary Beth McDonald, Academic Advisor

Ms. McDonald graduated from Ohio University with a B.A degree in History. She was selected for the Teacher Corps Program at Wayne State University in Detroit. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University, with a concentration in Reading. Mary Beth taught Developmental Reading/Study Skills for more than 25 years at CSU and has been advising for approximately 2 years. She especially enjoys working with freshmen, returning women and undecided students.

Shela Perry Williams, Academic Advisor

Shela Perry Williams earned an M.A. Degree from Bowling Green State University in College Student Personnel, a B.A. in Sociology from Kent State University and a high school diploma from Glenville High School in Ohio. She has over 30 years of service and experience at Cleveland State University which has included advising and counseling, planning and coordinating workshops and seminars, and assessing program effectiveness. Her knowledge and experience about the educational process continues to make a difference in the lives of undecided, traditional and non-traditional students in planning their educational career goals and learning the skills needed for academic success.
