Study the complexities of diversity and how people with diverse backgrounds come together to form
and function in communities. Develop a broad understanding of interrelated issues that influence our
ability to live and work together in harmony. Challenges associated with educating citizens for living in
a global society are featured. Coursework is ideal for students who plan to pursue careers in education
or human services. Students will develop critical thinking and writing skills and a broad understanding
of world issues. Involves intensive, hands-on service-learning in settings outside the classroom.

Entrepreneurial Business and the Global Marketplace
An excellent introduction to the study of business and the challenges and rewards of careers in this field. Develop fundamental skills in critical thinking, writing and quantitative analysis as preparation for majors in business or computer and information science. Coursework is challenging, involving service-learning opportunities and a range of activities to help students pursue careers in entrepreneurial business and the global marketplace.

Experiences in Global Cultures and Class
Students in the CSU Scholars Program are eligible to
enroll in this Community that offers preparation for many
majors. Examine various facets of global cultures with an
emphasis on Latin American History and the Third World.
Coursework provides a broad understanding of the diversity of
global cultures, dynamics and characteristics they all share.
Students will develop a range of skills and operate as a learning
community within larger classes.

Global Leaders in Community Service: a Living Learning Community
Ideal for students who desire an intensive and dynamic learning experience geared toward civic engagement and community service. Develop leadership skills and grow personally and intellectually in a supportive living environment. Students will live together on
one floor of Fenn Tower Residence Hall for two semesters and will organize and manage themselves and their assigned resources
as a community. Students enroll in two courses as a cohort and may select additional courses that reflect their interests and major.

Images, Realities and Constructions of Society
Separate fact from fiction in society by examining images and social constructions depicted in film. Gain a deeper understanding
of how images shape our attitudes and realities with a particular focus on urban Black America. Consider how city planning,
politics and other forces contribute to images and portrayals in film and in life. Especially designed for students who wish to
strengthen critical thinking, writing and quantitative skills before declaring a major or placement in required Math or English courses.

Science and Soul
Add a little soul to the study of science, exploring
roots and compositions along the way. Survey the roots
and development of rhythm and blues, rock and roll and
the various social causes and interplay between music,

Virtues, Voices and Vibes in the Spoken Word
Focus on the spoken word movement and hip-hop culture, performing arts, poetry, singing and acting. A unique opportunity to develop critical thinking and writing skills using this contemporary literary performance style.
Learn to share your ideas and social commentary in this provocative youth culture. Students will study with visiting artists, compete in spoken word events and attend performances at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square.

Women in Society: Gender Still Matters
Take a progressive and penetrating look at changing gender roles in society. Students will examine these changes in the context of traditional theories of personality and emerging concepts. Explore societal views of women, identity, roles, family structures, workplace dynamics, politics, health and equity in modern society. Course work is challenging and provocative, designed to heighten awareness and help students develop critical thinking, writing and quantitative skills.

Weekend Learning Community
Enter or re-enter the college scene with maximum flexibility and support! This Community works best
for the highly motivated adult learner who is comfortable using a computer. Courses are hybrid format,
requiring students to complete assignments online with only three face-to-face sessions per class.
Most sessions are at CSU’s East Center in Solon on Saturdays. Course work provides a solid foundation
to strengthen writing and critical thinking skills. Emphasis is on clarifying academic goals and career
options while learning from prior life experiences.
