Paid Time Off

Vacation and Holiday Paid Time off

Professional and Classified staff are eligible for paid vacation time.  Full-time Professional staff members accumulate 7.34 hours of paid vacation time each pay for a total of 22 days per year. Part-time Professional staff members who work 20 hours or more per week earn a prorated amount of vacation based on their hours worked. Classified staff members accumulate paid vacation as follows.

Vacation leave is available to the employee to the extent earned provided that the dates for such leave are approved in advance by the employee's supervisor or unit head.Staff members are expected to use accrued vacation leave periodically.  Generally, vacation leave accumulation may not exceed 44 days at any time within a fiscal year.  On June 30 no more than 30 days may be carried forward to the next fiscal year, except with approval from the Department of Human Resources.The University also provides paid time off for ten holidays:

Sick Pay Benefits

The University provides a sick pay accumulation plan for faculty and staff.  Sick leave time is accumulated according to the following schedule:

Employee Type Number of Hours Accumulated per pay
Faculty &  Salaried Professional Staff 10 hours per month*
Classified Hourly Staff 4.6 hours per 80 hours worked

* Pro-rated for Academic Year and Part-Time appointments.Sick pay hours may be used for the employee or family member's illness and/or injury.  Sick pay accumulation is also available for incidents of short-term disability until an employee satisfies long-term disability application requirements.Accumulation is unlimited and may be transferred among city, county or state agencies within Ohio.  With 10 years of state service, one-quarter of your accumulated unused sick leave balance up to 240 hours may be paid out in cash upon retirement.If you have previous employment with any Ohio public agency (State, County, Municipal) that service time and accrued unused sick time may be transferred to CSU.  This additional service time may affect your longevity and vacation accrual if you are a classified employee.
