Part-Time Employees Who Work 20-29
Hours per Week:
Regular part-time staff and
administrative faculty with an appointment of six months or longer who maintain
a position in which they are scheduled and work 20 – 29 hours per week are eligible to participate in CSU's
part-time benefits program consisting of the Kaiser HMO; Voluntary 403(B)
Accounts; buy up to $150,000 of Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance; and,
participation in the Medical FSA and Dependent Care FSA benefit plans. The
employee pays the full cost of these benefits. Voluntary Life
insurance cost depends on employee age.
The Kaiser
HMO pre-tax payroll contributions are:
Single $358 per month
Family $957 per month
Flexible Spending Accounts
You may choose to participate
in a medical or dependent day care flexible spending account (FSA). The maximum contribution is $5,000 per
account per year. Deposits to a
dependent day care account may be further limited based on your marital
status and tax filing status. Life Insurance
Voluntary Life Insurance is
offered through the Standard Insurance Company. You may purchase up to $150,000 of
coverage. Up to $50,000 of coverage
will be granted without evidence of insurability if you apply within the
first 31 days of your eligibility date.

Employee Assistance Program
The University provides access to the IMPACT EAP at no cost to part-time
staff members. A regular part-time employee is defined as an employee
with an appointment to a position of six months or longer and regularly
scheduled and working 20-29 hours per week.
Staff Development Benefits
Part-time staff appointed to a position for six months or longer and
regularly scheduled to work 20-29 hours per week are eligible
for tuition remission benefits. Part-time employees are entitled to tuition
remission of up to eight (8) credit hours per semester. Employees may
also use tuition remission benefits for non-credit courses offered through
the University's Continuing Education program based on the current
undergraduate rate of $330 per credit hour (as of Spring

Part-Time Employees Who Work 30 or
more Hours per Week:
The part-time employee pays 25% of the total premium cost. This program includes a choice of enrollment in the following medical plans and the following pre-tax payroll deduction amounts:
Medical Mutual Traditional Plan: Single $116.75 per month Family $ 302.50 per month
Medical Mutual Value Plan: Single $ 101.00 per month Family $ 262.25 per month
Kaiser HMO: Single $ 89.50 per month Family $ 239.25 per month
Cash Option: $900 payable at the end of the plan year in June each year with proof of coverage from another source.
In addition, the program offers dental and vision plans at the following cots:

Life Insurance

Taxation of Basic Life Insurance
According to Internal Revenue Service taxation rules (IRS Code Section 79), employer provided Group Term Life Insurance is subject to taxation for coverage amounts greater than $50,000 and is calculated as imputed income to you. Applicable Federal, State, Medicare and Local taxes will be withheld. The actual amount of taxes you pay will vary according to your individual tax bracket. Taxation of your Life Insurance is automatic and only applies to the Basic Life Insurance Plan and not Voluntary Employee, Spouse and Dependent Life Insurance.
Factors determining imputed income are:
- Basic Life coverage amounts over $50,000,
- The IRS age-based premium rates, and
- An employee’s age as of December 31 of the tax year.

Waiver of Insurance
Employees can voluntarily, “waive” or “opt-out” of coverage in excess of $50,000 for Basic Life and AD&D Insurance. If you wish to waive coverage in excess of $50,000, a “Waiver Agreement” must be completed and returned to Human Resources, AC 113. Refer to the Waiver Agreement for more details. Voluntary Life Insurance
Voluntary Life Insurance is provided by the Standard Insurance Company. You may purchase up to $500,000 of coverage for yourself and up to $250,000 for your spouse. You may also apply to purchase $10,000 of insurance to cover all your dependent children for $0.50 per month. Up to $200,000 of coverage will be granted without evidence of insurability for you and $100,000 for your spouse if you apply within the first 31 days of your eligibility date.

To ensure eligibility, part-time staff members must enroll within
31 days of their hire date.
Long-Term Disability
Long-term disability which provides up to 60% salary replacement ($5,000 a month maximum) after the elimination period, is provided at no cost the employee. Refer to certificate of coverage for details.

Tuition Remission for
Dependents
Upon completion of two years of continuous part-time service at 75% time or greater, your spouse and dependent children become eligible for tuition remission for credit courses (e.g. not continuing education, seminars or other non-credit courses). For eligible part-time employees, an undergraduate student may receive a 75% tuition remission. A 50% tuition remission is provided to eligible graduate students. The benefit is limited to 144 credit hours or two degrees, whichever is less. Eligibility requirements must be satisfied as of the first day of the semester term. Also, dependents must meet Internal Revenue Service rules to be eligible for this benefit.
