MAPS IN THE C.U.T. COLLECTION

While the maps, drawings and plans are being processed, samples of some are here available on-line. The collection contains several types of maps, drawn for specific, construction-related purposes. They are listed below, with details lifted out for purposes of illustration (the entire maps are NOT shown here):

property acquisition map of the C.U.T. Collection PROPERTY ACQUISITION MAPS, are long linen maps showing the parcels of land needed to build the approaches to the union terminal and how these parcels were to be acquired. This view show approximately the same area as the next map below. They were rolled and are in good to fair condition.
wrecking map of the Cleveland Union Terminal Collection WRECKING MAPS, show the parcels containing buildings to be demolished. The red cross-hatching is the area to be cleared and the outlines of the buildings are visible. The green area are portions of streets being vacated. For more on these maps and photos of the buildings demolished, see the "Forgotten Cleveland" on-line exhibition. The wrecking maps are bound together and are very fragile.
existing conditions map of the C.U.T. Collection EXISTING CONDITIONS MAP, display the final, "as-built" C.U.T. construction. Drawn on linen and rolled they are very detailed, but are only in fair to poor condition. Click here to learn more about this particular map.
track layouts in the collection TRACK LAYOUTS were obviously an important part of the union terminal project and exist in the collection in a variety of styles. Shown here is a small piece of one done as a blueline drawing, the original including an elevation in the lower portion. Other track layouts were done as blueprints, or as linens, and there are many untitled pencil sketches on flimsy tracking paper.
